Our Commitment
GoodLeaf farms is committed to providing fresh, safe, nutritious leafy greens to Canadians year-round.
Our indoor-vertical farming system allows us to control our plants’ growing conditions from seed to harvest. We have no need for pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides, and our fully-automated farming process means the safest produce possible.
Follow our step by step guide below to learn more about how and why we grow this way:
NON GMO SEEDS. ECO-FRIENDLY SUBSTRATE.
Just like traditional farms and greenhouses, the first step to growing high-quality plants starts with high-quality seeds. We grow our seeds in a carefully selected, responsibly sourced growing medium (not soil, but a peat blend) to optimize the plant’s growth.
GROWING TRAYS ARE FILLED WITH SUBSTRATE, SEEDED AND WATERED.
Our plants are grown in trays. These trays are filled with our proprietary substrate blend and then the seeds are sown by our automated seeder. The trays are watered, slotted together on a large growing bench, and enter a dark humid room for germination.
GREENS ARE GROWN HYDROPONICALLY UNDER LED LIGHTS
After germination, our small seedlings are transferred to our multi-layer grow chamber. Our plants are placed under highly efficient LED lights that mimic the spring sun (perfect for our leafy greens). The purplish pink appearance is futuristic indeed! To feed the plants, we pump in water that is mixed with the essential nutrients our plants need to flourish.
PLANTS ARE HARVESTED, AUTOMATICALLY PACKED, AND QUALITY TESTED.
After spending the optimal time in the grow chamber, our greens are ready for harvest. Through our automated technology, the plants are harvested at the peak of readiness, packed, and held for testing. Our products are never released from our farm until tests show that they’re safe to eat.
OUR GREENS ARE DELIVERED TO YOUR LOCAL CHEF OR GROCERY STORE.
We build our farms next to urban centers to reduce the distance between farm and fork. Decreasing the environmental footprint of transport increases taste, nutrition, and freshness.
AN ESSENTIAL PART OF YOUR HEALTHY DIET
Canada’s 2019 Food Guide recommendation is to eat more fruits and vegetables. We are proud we can help Canadians expand their access to local, fresh, nutrient-dense, tasty greens all year round.
